WEEK 8 - DEVELOPING
My dissertation is finished, and I can now fully focus on my textiles work. After my research on dip-dyeing techniques last week, I created panels of plain knit and placed them in a mordant bath made with alum overnight. I created a madder and indigo dye bath and began dip-dyeing different sections to create an organic ombre effect. I was happy with how this turned out and feel that the colours looked very vibrant. I spent the rest of this week further researching fashion context such as Acne studios, and naturally dyeing balls of yarn in different colours to experiment with the colours natural dyes could produce.
I began creating different boards to plan potential samples, showing fashion context that inspires me, potential techniques and including colourful collages that could inspire the patterns. I created small swatches of wrapped yarn to see how the dyed yarns would look beside each other. These boards were successful in helping me plan out my next 4 samples, which allowed me to prep how much yarn I would need to dye and knit techniques to learn.
I created another board demonstrating my wools journey, from it being at the farm as a raw fleece all the way to dyed yarn. This allows for a deeper and clearer understanding of the process that has been very important within my sampling. This week was productive as I have a clear plan for my next couple of samples, and an idea of what I need to do to create them.
