The Future Is Olach

Rengenerative textiles that are ever-changing and made to last a lifetime.

Natural Dye Screen Printing

Combined with more structural knits found within my collection, exploration of more organic patterns resembling the Scottish Highland landscapes can be seen. This has been done with the use of screen-printed natural dyes combined with manutex, a natural binder made from seaweed.

The process of knit-de-knit is prominent, this technique starts by dyeing knitted panels into an organic blended pattern which is then unraveled back onto a cone. When re-knitted back onto the machine with additional colours of yarn, this creates a completely new design. This process is circular and the garment can be ever changing and never fully finished.

Hand Processed Scottish Wool

Traceability is at the heart of my project, wool found within each textile can be traced back to the farm it originated from.

This allows for the important knowledge in the wools production, and if it has been sustainably and ethically produced. Processing the fibre by hand is a prominant focus within this collection, with raw fleece being transformed into yarn that can be used within knitted textiles.

Although colour has been a large focal point within my collection, celebrating the beauty found in raw, undyed wool is equally as important

The colours used within my knitted textiles have been inspired directly from those seen within the Scottish Highland’s natural landscapes, from its native Yellow Gorse flowers to the many shades of blue found within its Loch’s and skies.

I chose to use natural dyes, not only due to their importance in sustainability, but also their ability to replicate the colours seen in the nature surrounding us.
