WEEK 15 & WEEK 16 - ADDING VERTICAL DESIGNS
During these weeks it has been dedicated to sketch booking, writing down my reflections, updating my technical files from all the new techniques I have been learning, and summing up the different elements of research. With this I started to look back at my context sketchbook, that featured interesting, knitted jumpers that had the shapes and outlines of organic landscapes within them. After looking at my collection so far, it all looks very horizontal as this is how knit patterns are structured. I wanted to add some difference to the collection with the use of more vertical patterns. I sought out my concertina sketchbook which I had created in semester one and found pieces of trace that detailed the liner structures found within the landscape paintings I had created. I decided to begin sampling using natural dyes and screen printing, to achieve more organic, vertical prints that would add a new layer to my collection. I created two knitted sheets of 2 ply wool and measured them to the size of my screen. With this, I dyed them gold and green, two colours that I felt would harmonize well with the other colours and that would add a lot of vibrancy to the collection. I began putting my sketches into photoshop and began preparing to screen-print within the next week.
