WEEK 11 - COLLECTION BUILDING
This week I started practicing a ribbed technique on the knit machine, as I felt my collection needed a bit more technique and texture to stand out. I practiced this over the course of two days, learning how to create these textural patterns. Once I felt confident enough, I unravelled the practise samples and used my dip dyeing technique in a fustic bark and indigo dye bath and used this technique when re-knitting the sample. It worked well and added another layer of interest to my growing collection. The rest of this week was centred around processing and spinning more of my hand made yarn, especially from the zwartbles sheep as this dark colour has not been used within a sample yet, and I wanted to start using this colour within my samples. This took a few days to make and took up a lot of my week. This week felt quite slow due to it being centred around learning new techniques and slow processes such as creating my own yarn.
After looking at my recent samples, I decided that I needed to use a different ply of yarn as I have only been creating sample using thick 5 ply wool on the chunky knit machine. I ordered some traceable, 2 ply lambswool yarn that will help create a different look, texture and weight to my collection, which I feel is necessary to showcase how versatile wool be in creating different looks. I felt this combination would work well in making the collection more interesting. I ordered my 2-ply yarn, and this will arrive next week. Next week, I will continue sketch booking what I have developed and document my processes.
